    • Manual pony car shootout - 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE vs. 2019 Ford Mustang GT PPL2

It certainly is nice you can still get a fairly big naturally aspirated V8 paired to a manual transmission in a rear wheel drive configuration. The Americans are the ones making it possible today and even doing so at a value price point.

Yes, the Mustang GT and Camaro SS offer a ton of value in today's market and even things you can no longer get with other makes.

These two have options that raise the cost a bit namely the Camaro SS with the 1LE package at $7000. You get larger brakes, magnetic control dampers, 20 inch wheels, Recaro seats, a valved exhaust, and an electronically controlled limited slip differential.

The Mustang GT gets the Performance Package Level 2 option coming in at $6500. It also gets magnetic dampers and stiffer anti-roll bars, strut tower bracing, upgraded brakes, and 19 inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Car and Driver preferred the Camaro to the Mustang. Most of their complaints come down to the tires which seems like a stupid reason to penalize an entire car for. Ok, the Pilot Sport Cup 2's are loud. So what? Can they not be changed? They don't perform well in water? Uh, isn't this a performance package optioned car? The tire complaints seem illogical when the Mustang has more grip on the skidpad and goes through the slalom faster. Seems like the tires are doing exactly what you expect them to do.

The Camaro is quicker and faster through the 1/4 mile running a 12.3 @ 116. The Mustang managed a 12.6 @ 114. Yet, the Mustang is quicker to 150 by 2.3 seconds. Maybe the driver is the factor in the 1/4 mile time here?

The Camaro is praised for its ride and its V8 but the interior materials are criticized. Car and Driver makes a huge deal about how poor the interior is and who is surprised? That seems to be a GM feature on Camaros.

So they choose the Camaro but say the exterior and interior are no good in the process. Its precise steering and engine give it the victory.

Seems like these two are both great and really it just comes down to personal preference as they are evenly matched. The Mustang just looks better inside and out while doing its thing.

The fact you can get a brand new C7 now for $40k's makes it the obvious choice over either of these unless you for some reason need 2 unusable back seats.

Not that I give too many fuks about either car, but it looks like the Mustang won most major performance categories accept like 0-60, and 1/4 mi...and in IMO, looks a little better doing it, yet they give the win to the Camaro-wtf!? Also, how do they give the Camaro a 10/9 handling win when the Mustang has better skidpad & slalom numbers-huh? WTF is "flexibility"?

Exactly. They reach some weird conclusions.
